Gruwell and their former students and members of freedom of freedom candidates for months campores in Morteno Valley Unified School district. One of her last stops was the Mountain High School. They held a gathering and met the students' campus body and held a private workshop with students who are part of the peer management class.
The district was chosen to organize the Freedom writers, as the Superintendent Dr. MartinRex Kedziora performed a training carried out by the foundation and called as a freedom teacher teacher.

Alpizar was one of more than a hundred students who met Gruwell when they taught a workplace in Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach in 1994. During her time there found that Gruwell not only became her life as someone in Newport Beach, but also the 150 students walking through their classroom.
Gruwell has exposed its students who have unique lessons, including something called the line game. It is an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the class and the students. The activity allows a teacher to meet information from their students that they may not be able to share with a teacher. Alpizar and a few members of the foundation used the line game to gain an insight into what some students have undergone or experienced.
The workshop is private and what is said in the room remains there, as the students open up traumatic experiences such as suicide, violence, abuse and their lack of self-confidence. To calm the students, Alpizar and the other workshop leaders, their personal stories use in the hope that students know that they are not alone, and there are people who believe in them.
How the age of 15 I had experienced a loss of my brother. I had been homeless. My father was an alcoholic. My mother was neglected. She had a mental illness. I was homeless and felt so completely lost, Alpizar said.
The goal is to bring the students to share their stories, to understand that others there are out there, who either experience a similar situation or want to be there for them. Ultimately, the foundation encourages students to write down their feelings, share and use them as a gateway.

Alpizar and Gruwell's other students completed high school and all went to pay the career. Alpizar hopes that their story will help the students who feel alone when they see themselves seeing themselves that they can use the training to scream their story with an end with an end from which they can be proud of.
